How do I install or update a Steam game?

Instructions for Manual Steam Updates

1. Be sure to backup any custom custom files and/or directories.

If this is your first manual install / update, you must delete the following directories in your home directory via File Manager or FTP:

hlds_l
hlds_source
killingfloor
roost

You only need to do this once. For further manual steam updates, always skip step #1 and go to step #2.

2. Go to your control panel Custom Commands and click on "Edit Steam".

Edit 4 of the lines to select the type of Steam update you wish to have.

Example:

If your username is bob and you want to update Counter-Strike:

Change:

# server_exec="steam"
# game="cstrike"
# game_directory="hlds_l"
# username="insertusernamhere"

To:

server_exec="steam"
game="cstrike"
game_directory="hlds_l"
username="bob"

Be sure to remove the #'s and space in front of each command.

If you want to update other games, you must put the #'s back and redo Step # 3 for each one.

3. Click on Start Steam.

The process may take awhile, please be sure to read the information as it scrolls. Steam will warn you and tell you to 'retry'. Please ignore this, the process will try to 'retry' automatically. If you get a 'reset connection' message, restart the process again, the Steam servers may be very busy.
